PRP Is an Acronym, but It May Help If You Suffer From Hair Loss

There are a lot of acronyms out in the world in the 21st century. People reduce complicated or long descriptions of acronyms because it saves time typing out the whole thing. PRP is a useful acronym if you have thinning hairSo you have SF for San Francisco, OAK for Oakland, SFO for San Francisco International Airport, SJC for San Jose International Airport, PRP for Platelet-Rich Plasma – no that’s not a place, it’s something that you can use to restore thinning hair. In the UK you have – well – UK for United Kingdom, and IDS for one of their politicians, Iain Duncan Smith, or to give him his full title, Sir George Iain Duncan Smith. So as you can see, acronyms save a lot of time and space.

So if you are losing your hair and live in San Francisco you might want to investigate SF PRP. Now the best place to find out about SF PRP is not in SF but in FC – Foster City. This is where you will find SVHI – or Silicon Valley Hair Institute to you – under the directorship of Dr. MC – Dr. Miguel Canales – who is a leading expert on hair restoration and hair transplantation.

A New Procedure: Platelet Rich Plasma for Hair Loss

He has recently been using a new procedure for thinning hair restoration which is PRP – Platelet-Rich Plasma. This is something which is made from your own blood and injected into the scalp to help the hair to grow. Human blood is composed mainly of red blood cells, white blood cells, plasma, and platelets. Platelets are what start the process of coagulation in blood and therefore help to heal wounds. By increasing the platelet amount in an area that has been wounded it would accelerate the healing process. The possible effects in promoting hair growth make it a useful treatment for hair loss.

The doctor takes a sample of your own blood and places it in a centrifuge which spins it around, and separates the solids – the platelets – from the liquid. Platelet activators – thrombin and calcium chloride are added. The separated “solid” part of the blood is PRP and this can then be injected into the scalp where the hair is thinning. The procedure takes about an hour and must be repeated after four weeks and again after eight. How often it needs to be repeated after that depends upon the individual’s response to the treatment. Hair growth can usually be seen within 2 – 6 months.
